After a season (1950\u20131951) in the corps de ballet of the <strong>Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Monnaie<\/strong>, she became a soloist at the <strong>Koninklijke Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp<\/strong> (1951\u20131957), where early repertoire included Namouna (Suite en blanc), Chout, The Firebird, and appearances in opera productions such as Faust, Carmen, and Prince Igor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1957 she moved to Berlin, joining the <strong>Berliner Ballett<\/strong> under Tatjana Gsovsky as first dancer. Highlights there included Hamlet, Orfeo, and Variationen Symphonischen, as well as a notable emergency appearance replacing Yvette Chauvir\u00e9 in La Dame aux cam\u00e9lias. She then danced as first soloist with the <strong>Ballet Jean Babil\u00e9e<\/strong> (1958\u20131959), performing works like La Boucle, L\u2019Oiseau bleu, and Balance \u00e0 trois; in 1959 she appeared with the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas in the classical repertoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1959 to 1964 she alternated between <strong>La Monnaie<\/strong> and <strong>Maurice B\u00e9jart\u2019s Ballet du XXe Si\u00e8cle<\/strong> as first soloist, creating and touring in major titles including Les Contes d\u2019Hoffmann, Pulcinella, Orph\u00e9e, Les Quatre Fils Aymon, and B\u00e9jart\u2019s jazz-inflected Such a Sweet Thunder. She subsequently joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in D\u00fcsseldorf as danseuse \u00e9toile (1964\u20131966), featured in The Firebird, Petrushka, and Bach Suite. With these companies she undertook multiple international tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning to Antwerp in 1966, she danced as \u00e9toile with the <strong>Royal Flemish Opera Ballet<\/strong> through 1970 in Andr\u00e9 Leclair\u2019s stagings of Cinderella, Concerto de Aranjuez, Pell\u00e9as et M\u00e9lisande, Orpheus, and more. She closed her stage career with one season at the <strong>Ballet van Vlaanderen<\/strong> (1970\u20131971), including B\u00e9jart\u2019s Love Scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the stage she appeared on television and worked for the screen, including choreography for \u00c9mile Degelin\u2019s feature <strong>\u00c0 perte de vue <\/strong>(1995) and a 1973 TV adaptation of <strong>Rip van Winkle<\/strong>\/Winckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After performing, she transitioned to teaching and leadership: classical-repertoire teacher at the <strong>Antwerp city ballet school <\/strong>(from 1964), ballet mistress and management member at the <strong>Royal Ballet of Flanders<\/strong> (from 1970), and <strong>Ballettmeisterin at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe<\/strong> (1984\u20131989), later returning to Antwerp as a repertoire teacher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obituaries in the Belgian press marked her as one of Flanders\u2019 defining ballerinas.<br><br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ballet Career At twelve she debuted with Andr\u00e9 Leclair at the Gala Querida in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, and in 1950 she danced in Florence at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
